Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Massachusetts

who are creditors allowed to talk to

Is it legal for a credit collections department to talk to anyone other than me about my financial situation without my consent? Also, are they allowed to lie about or say things that did not happen in conversations? Lastly do I have the right to take action against them if any of this has happened to me?

Re: who are creditors allowed to talk to

Creditors are prohibited from communicating your debt to third parties not liable for it and you can file a consumer protection action against them if they do so. Credit Bureaus are another story, however. Good Luck!
