Credut card debt

Can a debt collector threaten to take you to court if you do not pay?

They bought the debt from my credit card company

The simple and short answer to your question is yes. The caveat is the debt collector, pursuant to the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, cannot threaten to take an action that cannot legally be taken or that is not intended to be taken.
