Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Massachusetts

Death: Debt, etc

Hello,

1) Recently my father passed away and we've found out that he is $70,000 in debt. Are my mother, sister or myself required to pay off this debt?

2) Is there any way to do some sort of search for all property owned by my father?

3) Is there any way to do a search to find out any bank accounts which he has open?

Thanks for any advice at all

Re: Death: Debt, etc

My sincere condolemces on your father's passing. His estate would be responsible for the debt but not his heirs individually. Ads may be put in the newspaper requesting anyone with knowledge of assets he may have owned to make them known to whomever gets appointed by the Probate Court as his Executor or Administrator. Feel free to contact me if you have further questions.
