Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Massachusetts

Judgement (Dog Bite)

My sister's dog bit an 8-year-old boy who came to the front door of my house. He needed a few stitches but otherwise was fine. The boy's mother hired an attorney and my Homeowners isurance company settled the small claim. However, I now have a settled judgement on my credit report for 7 years and don't understand WHY...since this action never went to court. Can you please explain why?

Re: Judgement (Dog Bite)

The credit reporting bureaus ( Experian, Equifax & Transunion) & their partners and affiliates have people who access any and all public information available. I'm guessing that suit was initiated and subsequently settled. Thus, as a matter of public record, any court judgments against you on file with the clerk of court in the county or district where the judgment was rendered could be accessed and transcribed by these credit bureaus.
