Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Massachusetts

Hello LawGuru,

My question concerns a financial situation that involves an exboyfriend & a $6,000 debt that he has saddled me with. During the relationship, we used my credit standing ( he lacked credit) to allow him to run his business more efficiently( buying supplies & tools ) and purchase a truck. We have severed all ties other than this issue which he claimed he would honor. It has been 4 months since he forwarded any payment & that was the only payment I ever received from him over the past 7 months. Naturally, blinded by love, there is no written commitment that bonds him to this verbal agreement. The credit card company informed me that although he had and used his own card to make these purchases, the debt is my responsibilty, being the primary card holder. This news was not a big shock to me. I have pretty much resigned myself to the errs of my poor judgement, so this is my last ditch effort to not feel like a sucker. Please give me some hope...can you get blood from a stone ?? I obviously do not want it to cost me anymore monies if there is no law to support my dilema.

Thank you, Anne F. Day

Can you get blood from a stone? Difficult. You can get a judgement against your ex for the monies you "loaned " him. You can take that judgement and ask a court to order weekly payments, seize any personal property he may have.
