making payments 0n debt

If you owe a company money and there is no written contract on payment what is the minimum amount you can pay to keep them from harassing you ?

I would echo Attorney Murray's answer: there are strict federal and state laws regarding fair debt collection practices. Creditors, such as the company, must adhere to these rules - there are restrictions on when and how often they can call you, for example.

Generally speaking, the creditor may be open to negotiating some kind of payment proposal with you, rather than filing litigation.

An attorney can be instrumental in ensuring that your rights as a debtor are protected.

There is no minimum amount. But the Fair Debt Collections Act does prohibit certain actions by creditors if they are truly harassing you. If you retain an attorney to respond to them they are then required to deal only with that attorney and not directly with you. Good Luck!
