Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Massachusetts

Obligation if a collection agency purchases an old debt

I had an old credit card charge of an obligation. a company bought the debt- went to court, paid the debt, received a dismissal and now the ''attorney'' who I believe runs multiple collection agencies is chasing me again - what is my obligation to pay a debt that was dismissed in court - and what are the legal entitlements of the col. agency. Thank you

While you have no obligation, I would send this attorney a copy of the payment you made and a copy of the dismissal.

It was unclear to me whether or not the debt was paid in full and what was the circumstance of the dismissal. It is possible that they can rightfully pursue you for interest and attorney's fees.
