Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Massachusetts

hi, i have to owe collection dpt about 2300 which was the bill of ballys fitness and i paid it to them in 2008 after i know it and they told me my my credit buero report will be clear in 1 month. and yesterday i check my report and it shows that i have to still owe ballys some that amount of money. i am willing to take some loan but my credit score is smashed by them. what should i could do ? any legal solution

If you are sure you paid the debt (it's even better if you have proof like a cancelled check), you can do two things. You can send a letter to the collection department to have them correct your credit report. You can also contact the credit bureaus directly to have them investigate the debt and correct any mistakes. If they find that you paid the debt, they will remove the negative information. If they don't, and you have proof that you paid the debt, you may be able to sue for damages.
