Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Massachusetts

I'm owed 4,000, more than small claims allows

A former friend of mine owes me $4,000. He crashed a rental car without insurance and I covered the expense to keep him out of trouble. We made a signed contract right away that he would pay me back in full and with regular payments. Two months later he hasn't shown me anything but excuses. I have everything very documented, from the contract itself to what the rental car company took from me. My question is: If small claims court only allows up to 2 grand, where do i go to sue for the full amount? Thanks in advance

"Small claims court" is just a part of the various other courts around. For $4,000, you would go to the nearest District Court. You will have to prepare a written Complaint, pay a filing fee and then pay a sheriff or constable to serve the papers. There probably is a Law Library at the District Court you can use which will help you prepare a written complaint. Good luck!
