Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Massachusetts

I have received a summons from a lawyer regarding credit card debt. Should I answer the summons? If so, does it require an attorney to do so?

If you have the resources, you should discuss this issue with an attorney. Try calling the Massachusetts Lawyer Referral Service (http://massbar.org/lrs).

If you received a complaint and a summons, you have only 20 days to file an appropriate answer and raise any appropriate defense and counterclaims. I strongly encourage you to contact a lawyer to assist you. I *usually* am able to negotiate a settlement of cases of this nature for less than 50% of the amount owed, and am *usually* able to structure settlement in such a way that allows the debtor-litigant ample time to pay - all without the debtor having to step foot in court. Please feel free to contact my office at 617-357-5908.
