Responsible for credit card balance?

I charged 1,736. dollars to my creditcard. The following day,attempted to cancelled purchase.Told I could not.In process of dispute with this company.

Called creditcard co. asking if this company had charged my account. I was told no, they had not. I then requested that under no circumstances should they excaet a 1,736.00 charge from this compan. I was told not a problem. Following creditcard statement had 1,736.00 charge to my account from company I ask the credit card co. NOT to except

Am I responcible for this 1,736.00 charge?

Most credit card issuers have a consumer oriented dispute policy. Your credit card should put the amount in dispute while they investigate whether the transaction was proper. If it turns out that you in fact did not authorize it, they should remove the charge. Who is the credit card issuer?
