Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Massachusetts

I was served a summons for defaluting on a credit card. The summons says I do not have to appear in court but I do have to "answer the complaint" at the clerks office. What do I have to answer and what format would I use to respond to the clerks office. I have set up a repayment plan with the lawyer who served me.

You have only 20 days to prepare and file an Answer to the Complaint. There is no format prescribed by the Court. There may be certain defenses and potential counterclaims which you will need to raise in your Answer. My office represents debtors (and offers a variety of different payment options) against creditors in court. Oftentimes, we are able to dismiss or dramatically reduce the amount creditors are willing to take in settlement of the debt. Please feel free to give my office a call 617-357-4898.
