can an individual (non-lawyer) work for several small business as a subcontracted employee of the businesses in an administrative capacity and go to court for a small claims matter on their behalf

Doing so might run afoul of the Massachusetts Unauthorized Practice of Law statute, depending upon whether you are a bona fide employee of the corporate entity.;)
