Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Massachusetts

We have a small 4 unit condo association and asked an attorney to write a collection letter to a homeowner. He sent us a bill for $2,500 (the amount due was only $250). What recourse do we have?

I am assuming you did not have a Fee Agreement that spells out the hourly rate and other provisions regarding the attorney-client relationship. In any event, you may consider asking for an itemized billing statement detailing the time the attorney spent on this matter. You may also consider the Mass Bar Association Fee Arbitration service.
