Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Massachusetts
statute of limitations
i conducted an online search of the statute of limitations reagarding credit card debt collection in MA. Most sites stated a 6 year statute; however I noticed a footnote at one site pertaining to debt in ME and MA stating that the statutes there were 20 years. Can you better explain this?

Re: statute of limitations
In Massachusetts, a contract "under seal" has a 20 year limitation. Unless a contract expressly says it is "under seal" or words to that effect, it is a regular contract. "Under seal" is a throw-back to colonial days when the use of wax from a candle was used to "seal" an envelope or a deal, so to speak.
