Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Massachusetts
Can I stop payment if dissatisfied?
I had my hair colored recently and was apalled with the results. I cancelled the check and e-mailed the colorist but I didn't hear back for 2 weeks. He is now demanding I honor my check. I paid another stylist to fix it. Do I have any legal standing here? Do I have to pay for services I was so dissatisfied with even when I gave him notice?

Re: Can I stop payment if dissatisfied?
This is subjective. You can, among other options, send him a 93a consumer protection letter, demanding a settlement. If you believe that he has harmed you not only to the way he did your hair, but to the consequences, you can make a demand for a certain amount of money. You can also file a complaint with the licensing board. You may be able to contact the attorney general's office, consumer affairs division. Apparently the job that the peron did was extremely bad, and you put him on notice that you were dissatisfied. Stopping a check was certainy an option for inadequate performance.
