Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Massachusetts

Survivor's obligations to deceased spouse's debt.

My wife died July 2003 in Massachusetts, leaving some credit card debts some of which were in my wifes name only. I do not have the resources to pay them off there is no estate. Two banks have already forgiven her balance; another (insurance company) calls me once a month.

Other banks have been notified, but have not recieved any correspondence.

What are my obligations to these creditors?

Bring all evidence and documentation regarding each debt to an attorney to advise what if any obligation you may have on each. They'll need the contracts on each to determine if you are either a principal or guarantor on any of them. Perhaps a Probate needs to be filed to start the statute of limitations running against the creditors. Good Luck.
