Re: susan smith

It really depends on the nature of the debt, and how the debt was treated by the parties.

For example, debts under Mass Health will be collected following the death of the person who took advantage of the medical services.

If the debt is an unsecured consumer debt (credit card bills), then you may be responsible if you were a joint card holder, your name was on the account, or if purchases were made by your husband for necessaries (like food and shelter).

You would be well-advised to speak to an attorney before acknowledging the debt and before you sign or provide a statement to the credit card company. They will try to collect from you EVEN if it would be improper to do so.
