Legal Question in Criminal Law in Massachusetts
My 18 year old got his 16 year old girlfriend pregnant she may have been days away from 16 when she conceived we won't know until the ultrasound. Her father is trying to file charges. The police tell me not to get an attorney because the DA won't file charges should I? I live in a state without Romeo Juliet laws. The girl is also in DCF custody.

IF YOU THINK YOU SHOULD RETAIN AN ATTORNEY FOR YOUR SON, YOU SHOULD.
Relying on the police, who are agents for the DA, is like asking the fox to watch the hen house.
You and your son should retain an attorney and rely on that attorney, alone, to advise you, which, I suspect, will include advice to confide only in that attorney and not confide anything in the police and certainly not here on the internet.
Statutory Rape is a very serious charge that could ruin your son's life. He needs representation by the best attorney you can afford to retain for him, and you both need to stop admitting anything to anyone but the attorney you retain. Good Luck!
