Legal Question in Criminal Law in Massachusetts

bad check writing

in march of 1996 i had written some bad checks,(total amount about 2500 or less) I have not been charged with any crime or been arrested at this point but there are 2 warrents out for me. How can I handle this, is the statue of limitations run out for those charges. i am not in the postion to hire a atty at this time, what is my course of action, thanks for your help in this matter

The warrants mean that you have been charged with crimes. Therefore the statute of limitations doesn't apply. You should go to the court that issued the warrants and have the warrants recalled. If you don't know the court, you can call the local police and ask them. You should also consult a local attorney about this matter.

I agree. Do not go to the police station. The warrants will tell you were to go. If not, you can send somebody to court, and a clerk may tell you. You may also contact the person against whom the checks were made, and see if you could resolve this matter before you go to court, but have another person contact them without telling them where you are.
