Legal Question in Criminal Law in Massachusetts
credit card fraud by ex-girlfriend
I have an ex girlfriend that opened up about 7 credit cards in her grandmonthers name (apparently they had the same name and I had no idea) but I never knew that these werent her credit cards. Well years after we have broken up I get a call from her grandmother stating that she racked up over $35,000 in credit card debt in her grandmothers name and says that I was part of it?? I was shocked because I never used her credit cards or physically had them, my ex used the cards to buy gas/pizza/alcohol just general expenses, like I did on my debit/credit cards and now they are telling me that I have to come up with not only that money, 1/2 of the $35k plus, can they really go after me for something I had nothing to do with?

They can attempt to "go after you", but they would have to prove you knew what the ex was doing. If the police contact you or a criminal complaint is issued, you should definitely consult with a lawyer.

There are some matters, larceny, identity theft and fraud. It is unclear why your grandmother is contacting you unless she believes that this was a joint effort, and she has some evidence to support such a belief.
Unlike Risa, you should contact a criminal defense attorney now. And if you need such help, contact me.
