Legal Question in Criminal Law in Massachusetts

criminal charges on my record

I was recently taken to court for a bounced check. When I went to court to pay it the DA said she could not find my paperwork and the judge told me to get a lawyer and come back. I got a lawyer who did not do what he needed to and now there is a warrent out for my arrest for not showing up in court. Is there anyway I can pay the costs and remove the warrent without any of it going on my record. I am a newly graduated nurse and can not get my license if this is on it. I was told if I pay it it goes on my criminal record. The check is in my name but my husband used the check to purchase supplies for a job that fell through. His birthdate is on the check and in the paperwork from the company it said that I walked into thier store and purchased this material. Which I did not, my husband did, but with my knowledge. My concern is having this on my record and ruining my career.

Re: criminal charges on my record

There is some information missing. When you went to court, you must have received a return date to appear with your attorney. Have you contacted the attorney to ask him/her what happened. Usually on a bounced check 1st offense, it is dismissed with payment of the check and court costs. You need to some how get back into court and get the warrant removed, and resolve this issue. I specialize in criminal work and you can call me with any questions.

Re: criminal charges on my record

In most cases, especially if your appear with an attorney, the courts will dismiss check cases with payment of money (although often times depends upon the amount of the check). If the case were dismissed it would still appear on your record as an arraignment with an ultimate dismissal--which should not hurt your job chances. I would need to know more about what happened with the other attorney to be able to figure out the warrant issue. Please feel free to contact me further. In what court were the charges issued?
