Re: Criminal

The paperwork you received should say what you were charged with. If it is criminal, and you could go to jail, you are entitled to an attorney if you cannot afford one. Ask for a court appointed attorney.

You should explain to the attorney your situation. If you are financially able to hire an attorney, then the Court will not appoint one -- hire an attorney.

What you do depends on what you are charged with, whether you are on probation, what your criminal record has on it, and what evidence the Commonwealth has that can be used to convict you. If you are not a citizen of the US, be particularly careful, you could end up being deported over such a matter. There are other "traps" that an attorney know about, which ordinary citizens do not. Get an attorney.
