A private citizen can not drop charges in a criminal matter. That right belongs to the district attorney. A person who is the victim can request that the charges be dropped but the district attorney does not have to drop the charges. If you talk to an attorney, the attorney can advise you concerning the ability to cause the charges to be dismissed based on your ability to refuse to testify based on a claim of privilege. The claim of privilege does not exist in every case and you need an attorney to give you advice based on the facts of your case.
