Legal Question in Criminal Law in Massachusetts

eligilbe for parole?

My son was sentenced to 4 to 8 years for vehicle homicide and I need to know what is his parole date. Does he have to serve all of the 4 before he can be eligible. I dont really understand. Someone told me that he could only serve about 2 1/2. Something about a mimumum time for that offense and also can he be paroled to texas from massachusetts. And do I need legal help for that?

Re: parole eligibility and transfer?

Your son should be able to go to the records department and check is eligibility date. This is commonly done in a prison. Every jailed person I know or heard about knows his date as well as he knows their name.

The second issue is if the Commonwealth can parole a person to another state. The answer is yes, and parole department must be asked to do that. There is a process that must be completed, and the transfer must be approved.
