What are the ethical responsibilities of a criminal defense lawyer representing a minor who doesn't want his parents to find out about his drug habits?

The minor is the client and is therefore entitled to private and confidential communications with the attorney, hence a lawyer cannot disclose information without permission even if the parents are paying the bill. Having said that, I usually attempt to convince the minor that it is their interest to authorize disclosure, and that usually works. Hope this helps.
