Legal Question in Criminal Law in Massachusetts
fine for shoplifting
Five years ago I was caught stealing cheese from a grocery store. The store took my personal information and told me to never come back. This was in California- I now live on the east coast. Today I recieved a bill in the mail for$575.00. I do not have $575.00. and they want it in ten days. Am I going to jail now? I have no criminal record and honestly thought that I had put this act of stupidity far behind me. Any information would be appreciated.

You really do not have a legal issue unless you are charged by a court. If you want to avoid the possibility of it becoming a legal issue, call them and try to work something out. If you are charged, call a lawyer where the charges is taken.
