Legal Question in Criminal Law in Massachusetts

I was with three friends in my friends car. We were all charged with possesion of marijuana, even after I admitted to the officer that it was mine. The officer found the bag with the

marijuana in the center console of the car. Should have all of my friends been given a citation?

Because the marijuana was found in center console of the car, and not in the possession of any specific individual, there is legal precedent for the officer to have cited everyone. That said, the other individuals will probably use your admission in their defense against the charges, to say that the marijuana belonged exclusively to you and was solely in your care and custody.
