Housing office wants to know who it is ...I'm not interested in sharing my identity. Receive email to personal address from criminal detective stating he wants to talk. What should I do...should I even speak with him or contact lawyer?

Contact a lawyer, do not reply to any emails and do not speak to the police. Your silence or refusal to speak to the police or any investigative body cannot be used against you. The police will only be looking to gather evidence against you, and they will try to get you to admit things that may tend to incriminate you. It sounds like you have never been interrogated by the police before, so you would not be aware of the vast array of tricks and coercive tactics the police use against a suspect. Do not give in to the temptation to go in and clear your name: you are presumed innocent until proven guilty, and whether the police think you are guilty or not is irrelevant. If you give the police no statements, they cannot claim that you said something which you may not have said. If the police persist in trying to speak to you, hire a lawyer immediately and have the lawyer tell the police you don't want to speak to them.

I agree - do nothing and call an attorney.

Do not speak to anyone about this except your attorney. Even posting online should be stopped at this point. Anything that you post anywhere can be used against you and the police are certainly not trying to assist you. Do not return their calls and hire an attorney. If the police do get through to you, tell them that you have nothing to say to them and refuse to say any more.
