Legal Question in Criminal Law in Massachusetts

Grand Larceny

I have no prior record- this is my first offense (I've never even had a speeding ticket). I am charged with larceny of 10000. I want to pay it back and be a functioning member of society. I never want to see the inside of a jail again (I had a 1000 bail that couldn't get paid- then I had a bail review to be released on personal recognizance). I also want to let them know I will seek outpatient therapy. What is the possibility of getting jail time?

Re: Grand Larceny

Although unlikely for a first offense, jail time is always a possibility, which is why you should retain a defense attorney an speak to no one but that attorney about this.

If they are unable to prove their case your record will remain clear or the attorney can negotiate a fair result for you. Good Luck!

Re: Grand Larceny

Larceny in Massachusetts is punishable by jail time. So, yes, there is a possibility that you will be sentenced to jail time.

If it is your first offense, depending on the facts, and you are willing and able to return an amount of money that is equal to the amount allegedly stolen - an alternative disposition may be available.

It will be crucial to retain a defense attorney who can negotiate with the prosecutor and protect your rights.

Feel free to call or email to discuss further.
