Legal Question in Criminal Law in Massachusetts

illegal search

Can the police (undercover detectives) come up to you in traffic and make you get out of the car and search you for suspision of a drug deal in the middle of the day? They searched me 3 times and the car for about 20 mins. in the middle of a highway without consent from me. They told me if I didn't let them search they would find some way to arrest me. After abot 20 mins. to a half hour they found nothing and let us go but they took my pocket knife that was bought at Home Depot.

Re: illegal search

This depends on what they knew and why they did it.

The area dealing with motor vehicle searches is one of the more complex issues.

While you told me what the did after they stopped you, I need to know what happened before.

I also need to know what they said.

The police can stop you for various motor vehicle violations.

They can stop you for certain suspicious behavior.

I really need more information.

Can you provide this?
