John doe subponea

I got a subpoena this week and it says my name vs John Doe. I am being called as a witness.

What does this mean and what is John Doe? I am confused

More information : I am to bring my computer, any other information regarding e-mails.

I just found out that my friend who received the original e-mails did not get a subponea

If the case name says that the litigation is you vs. John Doe, then you are the plaintiff, and you started the litigation, so I don't know why you are so confused by the proceedings. Presumably, either you filed the complaint or an attorney filed it on your behalf, and if the latter situation is true, I don't know why you're not consulting with that person to get answers to these questions. In any event, to the extent that the defendant is identified as "John Doe," apparently a pseudonym is being used to protect the identity of the defendant, due to then nature of the allegations you've made. Although I don't know anything about this case, I would strongly urge you to consult directly with an attorney to clarify some of these things, if you haven't done so already.

You should absolutely seek the assistance of an attorney in what seems to be a complex matter. Reposting the question does not alter the burden on you.
