I agree with Attorney Lebensbaum. Moreover, in addition to what he has said, although I don't know the specifics of your particular case, as a general matter it is a good idea to put the other party on advance notice that you intend to claim ownership of the property. A simple and effective way to do this is to send them a letter (certified mail, requiring a signature to confirm that they received it) putting them on notice that you intend to take ownership of the property if it is not reclaimed within a certain period of time. How much time you give them depends on the circumstances (e.g., it may be reasonable to give someone more time if they live really far away or cannot reasonably retrieve the items right away). In any event, again without knowing the circumstances, I would take a blind stab at it as a general matter and say that somewhere between 10 and 20 days after receipt of the letter, depending on the specific circumstances should be enough.
