Legal Question in Criminal Law in Massachusetts
who is liable?
A man (non law enforcement) is driving his car and witnesses a crime. He thence drives the car in pursuit of the criminal who is on foot running from the crime scene. The man cracks up his car during the pursuit. Is the criminal held responsible to pay for the man's car damages?

I simply cannot see the person being chased under these facts as being liable to the good samaritan.

The person being chased is not responsible for the negligent driving of his (non law enforcement) pursuer.
