Legal Question in Criminal Law in Massachusetts
can there be a mistrial based on the fact that the lawyer made the folowing statements..
"i could be getting $15,000 for this case, but because I am court appointed i only get $3000."
"you know the judge was a teacher of mine"" "no you and your cousin have to be tried together, there is no other way to separate the cases"
thanks,
Deb

Based what you provided as the facts, I don't think such would justify granting a new trial.

This is truly bizarre and inappropriate for the first statement. I agree that this is stupidity if made at trial and not on its own enough.
As to the second statement, was it made at trial?
