Legal Question in Criminal Law in Massachusetts
owi
I was charged with owi in massachusetts and have moved out of state. I do not intend to return to court. What happens to that case and can I receive my license in another state? Massachusetts says I have a 1 year suspension for failing the bac meter. Can I receive a license in illinois after this time if I never appear in court and am therefore not convicted?

Re: owi
Good luck with that genius plan... that is the fast track to going to jail. If you do not return to court and flee the jurisdiction, you are a "FUGITIVE FROM JUSTICE" and a WARRANT is entered into the National Criminal Index System (NCIS) so wherever you go in the US or any US territory, you can be arrested and held without bail until Massachusetts comes to pick you up. You cannot get a license in any other state, and you are not eligible for any social services, or even social security while you have an outstanding warrant.
Best bet is to get a lawyer... a good one can have you driving again (with a license) in a few weeks. Option B... your plan of fleeing the state... would fall into the category we call "a dumb move."
