Legal Question in Criminal Law in Massachusetts

At the Police Station

If someone drives down to the police station to make a criminal complaint in person at the front desk, should there be a written statement taken by the police regarding the nature of the complaint? If so, how can I get a copy of that documentation? (I'm the one the complaint was made against.) I requested documentation from the police department, all they gave me was a computer form that shows that a complaint was made on a certain date and time, there's no detail to it. If the complaint is made against me, don't I have the right to any documentation?

You ask many questions, all of which are good.

Usually, there is something written or entered, other than a computer entry. Sometimes, no report is written. Usually if the police will file an application for a criminal complaint, there should be a writing.

You do not have an absolute right to the written document. If a complaint against you is filed in court, then a written part of it should be included.

If there is no criminal complaint, I would contact the keeper of the records and ask if there is something written against you, and how you can get it.
