Legal Question in Criminal Law in Massachusetts

i put up $25,000 cash bail for a friend who has since missed his last court date. now i am to attend a bail forfeiture hearing this week. what should i expect to happen at this hearing?

Has your friend removed his default? If not, he should asap. If you lose the money, you have a claim against your friend but likely he will not be able to pay. If the default is removed and your friend had a good excuse, the judge is less likely to revoke the bail. You should attend and make clear to the judge that you are the one that posted the bail.

If your'e friend is around he should attend with you and explain why he missed the court date-he should also have the default removed before attending the hearing. If you don't attend you will lose the money.
