Legal Question in Criminal Law in Massachusetts

Question about criminal charges

I had a criminal complaint filed

against me by a department store for

concealing $45 worth or

merchandise. I was not arrested but

I do have to go to court. I just want

to know if there is anything I can do

to keep this off of my record. It was a

one time mistake, I just graduated

college and I don't want this to

prevent me from getting a job.

Re: Question about criminal charges

Even though you may view this as a minor charge, as it is a misdemeanor, it will still seriously effect your life if you carry a conviction for shoplifting on your record. Hire a good criminal defense attorney. It is difficult, but not impossible, to keep your record clean if handled properly. Call me if you need representation or information. We handle a lot of young clients in your position. I know how important it is to have a clean record, especially in these difficult times where employers check backgrounds.

Re: Question about criminal charges

It's difficult to tell from the information you've provided whether you will be able to keep this off your record. Your best chance in that regard is to hire a good criminal defense attorney to help you. While you may not be able to keep this off your record at all, the earlier in the process that you contact a lawyer, the better your chances of keeping it off your record. Good luck.
