Legal Question in Criminal Law in Massachusetts

registration and insurance

I was recently pulled over for an inspection sticker violation. It was determined I had a revoked registration due to a lapse in insurance the previous year. I had not relized this. It also came up as no insurance, which was not the case. Since this is termed as a criminal offense. Do I require an attorney?

Re: registration and insurance

If you have no priors, you may be allowed to simply pay a large fine to dismiss the charges, however, if you have a record of offenses, especially similar ones, you may be facing very serious consequences. Massachusetts is one of the states that actually criminalizes a failure to purchase or maintain auto insurance and will revoke a car's registartion if the owner has not paid up to the insurance companies.

I agree with Attorney Weicker. If you do go in without an attorney, at the very least you should have resolved all of the registration and insurance issues in advance, and bring proof to court that the car is currently registered and insured.
