Legal Question in Criminal Law in Massachusetts
What is a ''retainer?''
I would like to be able to speak with a criminal defense attorney in the event of a legal emergency.
1. What is a retainer?
2. What services are considered to be within the scope of a retainer?
3. What is the average cost?
Thank you.

Re: What is a ''retainer?''
A retainer is an advance, usually of anywhere between $750 and $1500 to be applied toward future bilings @ $150 per hour, plus out-of-pocket expense incurred in representing a client on a given legal matter. The complexity of the matter will determine the amount of the retainer initially requested. If you have further questions feel free to contact me. JOSEPH M. MURRAY,ESQ.
