Legal Question in Criminal Law in Massachusetts
I was robbed, now police change story
My wifes pocketbook was stolen out of her vehicle while she stepped out of her vehicle for a moment. Two juvenile were arrested, we later found the purse with all her stuff in it except the cash. The cash was in an enveloped labeled with the amount of money in it. The police told me they found the envelope and most of the cash on one of the suspects. They later called me and changed the story saying there was no envelope found and they only had recovered $500. They also made mention that it was not worth prosecuting because they would only get a slap on the wrist. Three reliable sources have also heard on the police scanner, the entire radio transmission with the police stating they found my envelope on the juvenile with most of the money in it. Are these radio transmissions recorded anywhere? What do I do. I am out about $3200. Myself and my wife have now heard three different stories, and three different money amounts recovered, but they only gave us $515. What do I do? Do I go to the Chief? I'm not sure he will help me. I also found out the detective in charge is very good friends with one of the juveniles uncles. They refused to give me a police report, stating that they cannot give me it because they are juvies

Re: I was robbed, now police change story
The police do keep these recordings, but not indefinitely, so time is of the essence. I suggest that you (or preferably your lawyer) contact the district attorney's office for your county ASAP and register your complaint.
