Legal Question in Criminal Law in Massachusetts

Seal CORI

Hello,

I would like to have an attorney petition the court to seal my CORI. There are three misdemeanor incidents, two of which were CWOF with a disposition of dismissed; the other was nolle prosequi and dismissed. The courts are Plymouth and Falmouth district court.

I have three questions:

1. What would be a rough estimate of the cost?

2. How like is a successful petition to seal a CORI?

3. Has anyone heard of the law being changed to actually allow people to expunge records that can be sealed?

MA seems to be the only state where the CORI is with you for life, regardless of the disposition. It has negatively impacted me in many ways including housing, education, and employment.

Thank you.

Re: Seal CORI

You do not include the dates of your offenses, but so long as they are 10 years or more since the last date of contact with the court system, your chances are very good. I know of no way to expunge rather than seal records. I do not quote prices online but if you are interested, you can contact me through my website and I would be happy to discuss this with you further. The website is www.lawworcester.com. My telephone number is available there. I am unable to provide it here in this post.

Re: Seal CORI

While I know of no way to expunge a record it may be sealed for certain offenses especially if they are more than 10 years old with no more recent infractions. The cost will depend on the number of hours needed. Good Luck!
