Legal Question in Criminal Law in Massachusetts

shop lifting

I was caught shop lifting an item with the

value of $130. Would it be possible to get

the charges dropped? What can be done to

protect me? Also, what are my options?

Re: shop lifting

Sometimes you can pay the store the value of stolen goods and have your case dismissed. This is called accord and satisfaction. Feel free to contact my office if you have additional questions.

It all depends upon the facts of the case and your prior record, if any, as to what will happen with the case. Please tell me more about yourself and the case and I can answer your question more thoroughly. Martha Kovner

Re: shop lifting

Charges are not dropped. They can be dismissed. Sometimes, an agreement can struck with the store or with the ADA to dismiss upon restitution or costs. You could also remand this to a clerk magistrate's hearing where you can also negotiate a resolution.

If you have any questions, call me.
