Legal Question in Criminal Law in Massachusetts

Statuary Rape

My son had sex with a girl he just turned 17 one week ago she is 15 i think. We are waiting for the police to arrest him.He has already given a statement to the police. They did not contact either his dad or me.Since he is just 17 should'nt they have contacted one of us before they took his statement? We feel an attorney should have been present. Also if he was convicted of this crime what kind of a sentence are we looking at?Would he have to register as a sex offender? If so how long?

Re: Statuary Rape

Depending on how the case is charged, if convicted he could have to register as a sex offender for the next 20 years, If convicted, the Sex Offender Registry Board in Boston would be responsible for holding a classification hearing to determine what "level" he is classified as and whether it requires posting on the internet or active communicty notification (mailing to all neighbors and posting in schools). You should speak to a criminal defense attorney in your area as soon as possible to see if this is something that can be dealt with before it is blown out of proportion.
