Statute of Limitations on Criminal Case

I have a pending case in mass. from 1988 and was curious as to the statute of limitations on them trying the case. i have attempted in past to clear up this issue but was told they could not find enough information like police names and what actually happened. There is a warrant from mass that comes up sometimes on background checks and would like to get it cleared up..
