Legal Question in Criminal Law in Massachusetts
strange situation
Hello,
earlier this year, I was assaulted by a young man named mitchell taylor.
the state of massachusetts pressed charges against him, some charges are assault and battery with seriouslt bodily injury
this person broke my nose, my jaw, and my leg.
massachusetts court case has been proceeding, and last july 12 he was supposed to be in court, and he never showed. turns out.
july 15 he died of a drug overdose at his parents house in west palm beach fl.
I have over 20,000 in hospital bills, besides cosmetic surgery i will need on my nose.
is there any way i could look into if this person had any sort of 401k i could dock towards my bills, or could i sue his family for my loss?
thankyou,--

Re: strange situation
The earlier answer is accurate. You can make a claim under the Victims of Violent Crimes Fund which I think is for a maximum of $20,000. It does not sound like you a have claim against his parents, but if he left any estate, you certainly would have a claim against those assets. Also, depending on how and where it occurred, you may have other claims. You should certainly talk to any attorney.

Strange indeed.
There is a victim's fund - for this you can contact the DA's office. You can only sue to recover the assailant. Going beyond that requires information for which you have not provided data.
