Legal Question in Criminal Law in Massachusetts

threat of physical violence over a disputed loan

I am in a dispute about a loan. I have been threatened with having my legs broken. The fellow making the threat is a millionaire and can well afford to pay somebody to do this. He has made claims in the past of having done this sort of stuff to other people. I don't know if these claims are true. But this guy worries me. I want to know what my rights are...is it appropriate to go to an attorney? Or will an attorney tell me that I need to go to the police? The fellow has also threatened to ''go after'' my wife. I'm not sure what was meant by that remark but I'm concerned about the whole situation and would like some idea as to how to proceed

Re: threat of physical violence over a disputed loan

The conduct you are complaining about, if true, is criminal. You should call the police as soon as possible and file a report. The police should investigate and maybe file a criminal complaint. If they don't file a complaint, you can go to the local District Court and file the complaint yourself.
