Grandson, age 15, shoplifted ($2 item)

Received letter quoting MA231:85G &

85R1/2. what is this law? They are

asking for $125. Unsure what area of

law this falls under.

I assume you have received a demand letter from the store which he is alleged to have shoplifted from. If he has been charged criminally then he should certainly not pay anything directly to the company. If he has not been charged criminally, then you may want to work out a settlement with the company. If you do not they could take your grandson to small claims court but it is not likely.
