Types of punishment
Is it possible to be court ordered to go into the military as punishment instead of jail time?

I agree with Ray. It sounds like you are seeking to have someone else be ordered into the military.
Court's ability to impose sentences are not infinite.

Re: Types of punishment
No. In fact, if a judge sentenced a person to join the military, their enlistment in the Armed Forces would be void as a product of duress and upon presenting proof of such a sentence, the person would be discharged if they so desired.
That being said, sometimes courts are willing to dismiss minor charges if they would prevent a person, who would otherwise be eligible, from joining the armed forces. This is actuallly a laudible decision by many judges as they are balancing the good of society and value of a person against factors that would otherwise call for punishment.
